I just bought the CoD pack, and I downloaded the first game. Problem is, it crashes as soon as it starts. Both singleplayer and multiplayer immediately stop responding as soon as they take over the screen.I tried verifying game cache. I restarted Steam. No effect at all.I'm on Windows 7 x64. Core i5 750, ATI HD5850 with Catalyst 10.6 drivers. This is the exact same problem I'm having.

Bought the pack. Installed first game and bang, codSP.exe has failed.Windows 7 x64, Core i7 920, ATi HD4870 Catalyst 10.6 drivers.I've tried 'Verify Integrity Of The Game Cache' once which didn't work, I deleted all game content, installed everything again and same problem . Look at the recent threads here. Someone reports reverting to Catalyst 10.3 made it work.I've only installed 10.6 like 3 days ago.

I'll revert it to the previous 1 see if it works. COD2 and the rest work though. What the hell . reverted to my old Drivers and same problem. COD 1 and United Offensive crash on start . I don't know what else to do?COD2 and MW work fine. I haven't installed WAW yet but I'm guessing that should work also.

I don't know what the go is with first two http://forums.amd.com/game/messagevi.&enterthread=yhttp://forums.amd.com/game/messagevi.hreadid=134169I saw annother thread where sprye the ATI forum mod said that ATI knew of the problem in the 10.5's and were working on it, yet the 10.6 released with no COD / COD:UO fix.Go back to 10.4And please Report the problem to ATI feedback.http://www.amdsurveys.com/se.ashx?s=5A1E27D27E29B0E3nvidia refrencehttp://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=319209 Interesting.

Thanks for the links!Well, I'll be patient. Played through CoD years ago when it came out and I can wait for the driver team to make a fix in 10.7 hopefully. Sent ATI a feedback notification about it in the meantime. I installed an hd geforce 8400 gs graphics card 256 mb ddr3 into a pci express slot. all the drivers are updated, I've checked device manager, but still when I try to play call of duty 1 it gives me this error:"RE_Shutdown( 1 )Shutting down OpenGL subsystem.wglMakeCurrent( NULL, NULL ): success.deleting GL context: success.releasing DC: success.destroying window.resetting display.shutting down QGL.unloading OpenGL DLL-Hunk_Clear: reset the hunk okYour video card appears to be missing one or more features required to run Call of Duty. You should install the latest drivers for your video card, being sure to uninstall the old drivers first.

If you already have the latest drivers, you should completely uninstall the drivers and then reinstall them. This fixes most problems. If the game still doesn't work, it may be that your video card does not have the minimum features required. Please check the readme for more information, including a list of supported video cards."I am fairly convinced this problem has to do with an older driver that is needed to play the game instead of a newer one.

on another computer I have, I run windows xp as guest, and call of duty loads and plays in the virtual machine. of course it's completely buggy and hard to move the mouse, which I've heard is consistent with trying to play games in a virtual machine.with windows xp to fix this open gl subsystem problem I would download the demo off the internet first, then it would run, then install the game, and the game would run fine. also I'm pretty sure I've downloaded the latest patch.

I'm not completely sure though, anyone have experience with this game?? which patch is better 1.4 or 1.5? any other ways to fix this problem that I haven't mentioned?

thanks Have you checked the graphics settings in bios, make sure that onboard is turned off?I'm surprised windows 7 even loaded on that, what's you windows score?edit: Did you install it under Program Files (x86)? -"We must capture a live earthling, K-9, and take him back with us to Mars.

You do not need directx you can completely remove it and those games should still play. The problem is your video cards, drivers, registry, config files.

Fix those."what is my windows score? I guess I could check if onboard is turned off in bios, but I was under the impression that since the last few times I checked that it said 'automatic' that it would automatically detect that a graphics card has been installed in a pci slot.

ok also, if the vga monitor is connected to the i/o vga port on the graphics card, and it was using onboard, then how in the world would I have visual on the monitor?ok what is my windows score? is that something in my computer that goes down if windows is cracked and goes up if a virus scanner is installed and detected by windows? if so, how would that help determine is proper codecs, patches, and drivers has been installed?

thanksok maybe you are right, it says my windows score needs to be refreshed, it's refreshing a windows 3d graphics experience checking the direct 3d 9 texture load assessment and what not. I hope this helps. I'm running an old 1 core processor but have 3 gigs of ram. none the less when windows 7 came out Bill Gates must have thought anything less then an i7 meant your system is garbage, plus I don't have a solid state drive. other then the older core processor I can't imagine why my number is so low. but fuck it whatever.here the nvidia driver version:8.17.12.8562strange though because I just installed 285.62 so really I have no clue as to why it says it's using that older version.

I'm trying to update it right nowI don't suppose uninstalling it and doing a windows update would fix anything would it?? Jesus. ok you are the second person to tell me that is the correct driver. maybe windows is being fucked up not detecting the hardware. let me try to restart the computer, and try to install the driver again, maybe in safe mode this time. No driver update is necessary at this time."but I still get the same error when I try to run the game. maybe I should google 'open gl subsystem error call of duty patch' for a few hours, I have no idea what other possible reason there could be for this game not running Registered: 06/06/07Posts: 21,103Loc: You get banned f or saying.Last seen: 8 hours, 59 minutesRe: call of duty just won't work with windows 7 [Re: Hesy-Ra]#15470589 - 12/06/11 02:21 AM (4 years, 9 months ago)EditReplyQuoteQuick Reply none at all.

please don't forget. opengl sub system is a codec or whatever a system file that existed way before the newer directx10 and directx11. most likely installing direct x now won't even install open gl sub system files for older games that used older drivers. call of duty 1 came out when most graphic cards were not up to 512 mb video ram processing capabilitiI just purchased Call of Duty and United Offensive. I have Windows 7 on my desktop.

After installing them one at a time (Call of Duty first) with anti-virus off, both of them refuse to start single player. I don't get any error messages.they just will not start.

I am careful to make sure that CD 1 of the correct game is in the CD drive but it does not help. I can start multi-player for both of them but when I select the Single Player option from the multi-player menu, the game just goes away as if I had selected Exit.Call of Duty 2 has worked beautifully on my computer for some years but Call of Duty and United Offensive will not.I do not have a clue what to try next. Hello!I am running CoD1 on windows 7 64 bit edition. For me the problem was exactly the same.To resolve my problem I totally reinstalled my computer, and was thinking of windows update problems.

So step by step I let windows update do his work. After installing the security update for windows 7 64 bit: KB3086255 the program CoD won't start anymoreexaclty like you mentioned. So I deleted the update and my problem is resolved.Solution: delete security update for win7 x64 KB3086255, and make sure windows update doesnt reinstall it again. Then restart your computer and have fun.( make sure you have the correct cd in your drive : 0 )Please let me know if you succeeded on this one.I'll be glad to know this worked for both CoD 1 and CoD:UO.I hope it's clear enough, I did my best helping you in English.Grtzz.

Hey guys, I'm not sure if I can post (about) this here, since the game is not on GOG's catalog but I will.I own an original copy of COD1 and UO expansion (physical, of course) and I bought it like 6 years ago.

The CD keys are not valid on Steam, but that's not the point. I installed the game (without UO) and it seems that some files might be corrupt. The main menu (in SP) has no picture in the background and pressing new game and selecting a difficulty doesn't do anything - it just closes the difficulty window. The multiplayer might work (there's a background picture and it queries the server), but I couldn't get into a server (just tried one) because I was missing some script file.

Probably just a mod thing I didn't download.I don't care about the multiplayer though, I just want to complete the single player mode on veteran difficulty. I attached a picture of how the main menu looks. Is there any legal way to fix this? I have a W7 64 bit edition.Cheers! Iain Iain Sorry, data for given user is currently unavailable. Install UO into the CoD directory you choose.Install these to a root directory like D:CoDThen get the UO 1.51 patch :http://callofduty.filefront.com/file/Call_of_Duty_United_Offensive_151_Patch;36116See if that sorts it out for you BMusic.320 BMusic.320 Sorry, data for given user is currently unavailable. I'll try it now, but I don't think it'll work. CoD (without UO) is currently on 1.5 (it says so in mp version, I think the sp remains 1.3), and I think UO won't mess with the original files.

I installed it in C:Call of Duty. We'll see how it goes.EDIT: I installed UO, and the single player main menu is the same like in vanilla CoD. However, clicking new game and selecting a difficulty initializes the first level, but it quickly goes back to the main menu because there was a "script compile error" I believe. It doesn't matter if you download the game somewhere else, COD1 has issues with win 7. I'm having problem with old Call of Duty games. Those are the original CoD, CoD: United Offensive and Call of Duty 2. The problem is Single Player won't start while Multiplayer works fine. What could be the problem? I tried everything. I'm running on Win10 but that shouldn't be the problem since MP works fine. I played CoD:2 like year ago on Win7 just fine.

Also to mention CoD4:MW and onwards all work fineHere is link to video what happens when I try to start it https://fliiby.com/file/hz6c7qm6pzm/ Hello!I am running CoD1 on windows 7 64 bit edition. For me the problem was exactly the same, but i'm on windows 7.To resolve my problem I totally reinstalled my computer, and was thinking of windows update problems.

Cuz I didn't buy it from steam, had it since release day.

On Activision they told me to seek help on Steam, since they moved support for older CoD games here. And no I didn't use any links from above, it fixed itself before they even posted it. As I said the game launched one day normaly and it's been working since then. I have no idea what was casuing it to fail and what caused the fix. I've been trying to fix it for like a week with no sucsess then 1 day I actully missclicked and it launched xD Valve Corporation.

Honestly, I'm not sure since steam automatically updates games for you. I'm sure it would be the most recent patch though.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help, but I assure you it can run on Win7. i appreciate the help thanx, call of duty 1 has no relation to steam,i purchased it in 2003,so it is not updated by steam i beleive, thanx again I know it came out in 2003, but I purchased it via steam a couple years ago, the CoD warchest, which included CoD1, CoD2, and CoD:UO.

You can still get all of these games individually through steam. http://store.steampowered.com/app/2620/?snr=1_4_4__13 When purchased this way, it automatically updates.

Of course the game is so old, that the first download of the game from steam call of duty 1 windows 7 fix include all the patches already. Since you purchased the game at retail, you need to download and install the patches manually. I think 1.5 is the newest and I'm not sure if it requires previous patches to be installed first. http://www.fileplanet.com/137503/130000/fileinfo/Call-of-Duty-v1.5-Patch Does the game run for any period of time before crashing?

If it does, try starting the game. once in game, open the task manager up and click on the "processes" tab. See if you can locate the CoD executable in the list and click once to highlight it.

now right-click the entry in the list and select "affinity". Uncheck all cores except core 0 and click "ok". Some older games have problems running on multicore machines. I don't see why CoD would work for me and others and not you though. Does the game run for any period of time before crashing?

no the game does not run before crashing unfortunately, just a black screen then the error message Mrclownface, what version Cat driver are you using? Since you have a ATI card, take a look at the catalyst AI in CCC.

Check or uncheck the box (can't remember which) and try to run the game again. I do know Cat 9.3 and 9.8 will run the game, many others don't. Mrclownface, what version Cat driver are you using? in my catalyst control centre it says.(CATALYST VERSION 11.2).in the driver packaging version it says.(Driver Packaging Version 8.821-110126a-112964C-ATI) Hi. I know this is old but no doubt someone will be looking for this issue in the future.

I just installed UO on Win7 and it runs fine. The most up to date patch is 1.51 not 1.5. If you install 1.51 you don't need the other patches. If you have had trouble running it before installing the 1.51 patch i would uninstall/reinstall and run the patch 1.51 before playing.
